A new report focused on PlayStation Spartacus, the supposed codename for Sony’s rumored subscription service, claims that the platform won’t showcase the better side that rival Xbox Game Pass has to offer. In recent years, the success of Xbox Game Pass has prompted a number of different video game publishers to start their own subscription platforms as well. And while PlayStation already has quite a few subscription services as it is, it looks like this new Spartacus platform will still be very different from Game Pass.
according to BloombergSony is set to announce the PlayStation Spartacus service sometime in the coming days. However, presumably, Spartacus won’t end up giving subscribers access to PlayStation’s first-party titles on the first day of their release. This is something that Xbox Game Pass has done for a long period of time and is easily the best feature of Microsoft’s service. Based on these reports, though, PlayStation has no plans to add exclusive offers such as God of War RagnarokAnd the Spider-Man from Marvel 2or Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake to Spartacus when they were first released.
So, what will PlayStation Spartacus do if it does not provide such exclusive offers to subscribers? Well, it’s not clear then, but it looks like Sony is planning to integrate both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now services with Spartacus. This combined version of both platforms will then be available for subscription at different tiers, with each tier offering different privileges of some kind. And while the exclusives for Day One won’t be a feature associated with these tiers, Sony is said to allow subscribers to stream specific games or even test demos of upcoming titles with Spartacus.
Given how much noise we’ve been hearing about the PlayStation Spartacus in recent days, it only makes sense that an official announcement from Sony would come soon enough. When we hear more details in an official capacity, we’ll make sure to let you know here on ComicBook.com.
